Deputies recover 123000 in stolen Brooks shoes
San Bernardino County deputies recovered merchandise worth $123,000 including Brooks running shoes following a suspected theft from a BNSF Railway boxcar. The recovery happened on Aug. 22 after law enforcement officials located two abandoned vans near Ludlow, California.
The incident began when BNSF police requested assistance from local deputies after a train made an emergency stop in the High Desert region.
Authorities previously spotted three vehicles near the rail equipment under suspicious circumstances. While traveling toward the site, deputies identified two vans matching descriptions of the vehicles seen near the train.
Upon inspecting the abandoned vans, officers found numerous boxes inside each vehicle. BNSF police confirmed the cargo originated from the boxcar. The sheriff’s department reported the total value of the recovered footwear exceeded that amount. No suspects have been identified, and officials have not announced any arrests related to the theft. The owners of the vehicles remain unknown.
Cargo theft often involves criminals targeting stationary or slow-moving rail equipment to move goods out of the supply chain.
