NSMC 2026 expands to more South Indian cities
The fourth edition of the National Science and Maths Championship (NSMC) will occur on November 1, 2026, extending beyond Kerala to include Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. XandY Learning runs the event, which now spans four major South Indian cities to give students a wider platform for skill assessment in science and mathematics.
Growing demand for early competitive exposure
This expansion reflects the growing demand for early exposure to competitive examinations and aims to provide students with a common platform to assess their scientific aptitude, mathematical reasoning, and analytical skills. The organizers emphasize conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and time management—abilities valued in modern competitive examinations.
Students in Classes 5 to 10 can participate in the computer-based test (CBT). The championship is designed to evaluate a student’s ability to apply concepts and solve problems, rather than focusing on rote memorization.

Few students in this age group have faced timed, high-stakes exams.
Exam structure and incentives
The 60-minute test includes 50 multiple-choice questions covering science, mathematics, and mental ability. Correct answers earn four points, while incorrect ones deduct one point, encouraging both accuracy and strategic decision-making.
For Classes 8 to 10, the science section splits into physics, chemistry, and biology, with 10 questions each. The mental ability portion tests logical reasoning and problem-solving with 10 questions.
NSMC 2026 offers a cash prize pool of ₹2.5 lakh, along with scholarships worth more than ₹10 lakh. The top performers in each class will receive prizes as follows: first prize: ₹15,000; second prize: ₹12,000; third prize: ₹8,000; fourth prize: ₹4,000, and fifth prize: ₹2,500. Every participant will receive an official Certificate of Participation. Registered students will also gain access to career awareness sessions conducted by academicians and industry experts.

Registration remains open for students across South India. The fee is ₹200, with a deadline of October 10, 2026. Results will be announced on November 15, 2026.
